Understanding How to Network

There are many different ways networking can be done. For instance, you can attend a networking event, host a networking event, find ways to network online or talk to a stranger while getting your hair done. The truth is networking can be done at any and every part of the day, no matter what you may be doing.

The key to benefiting from a networking experience is making personal connections with those you are talking to. Try always to be interested in getting to know them by asking questions about what drives them, their career goals, profession, etc. Make an excellent first impression. Your first and last impressions are crucial when marketing. Here are five ways to make an excellent first impression. I suggest doing two of these every time you connect with someone. If you follow these five steps, your last impression will be as good as your first impression.

Five Ways to Make a Good First Impression

Making first impressions at a lunch conference.

1. Introduce yourself and ask their name.

2. Make eye contact with whom you are talking.

3. Always stay engaged in what they are saying.

4. Smile and be happy to listen to their responses.

5. Ask meaningful questions rather than vague yes or no questions.

The point of networking is meeting people who can better your life and business. In the process, you can better their life and business as well. However, these tips help be remembered when marketing; your personality and uniqueness are also super important. You should try to be the best and most professional version of yourself and show who you are. It's okay to be unique. Especially when you are trying to build relationships with others, your characteristics can bring things to the table that others cannot. Be yourself.

Staying Connected

Staying connected.

Whenever you are networking, make sure to get contact information, whether it be social media, email, phone number, LinkedIn info, etc. This makes it possible for you, or them, to reach out after the event, which is highly beneficial.

An easy way to start a conversation after interacting with someone you connected with would be to bring up what you had previously talked about in person. This will help them remember who you are. If you make an excellent first impression, it will encourage them to want to talk more with you and hopefully collaborate in some way. Next time you have the chance to network, try these five tips and see how and where you can improve.
