INTRODUCTION to Starting a New Business
Starting a new business has never been easy, but it has always been beneficial in some way if done correctly. When creating a company, you're already taking the risk of putting money or time in and possibly not seeing any revenue come from it. This can be stressful, challenging, and even overwhelming.
That is why I have decided to write about the five things that have helped me and my family members start our business. There are so many tips that I could give you to create a new business, but I have decided to narrow it down to the five most important ones.
Create a business plan
Pick a name
Define your service
Discover your niche
Know your audience
1. Create a Business Plan

Creating a business plan is very important in the first stages of starting your business. This is when you list how you want your business to be.
Don't worry you can make many business plans, so if your first one is basic and straightforward, that is ok. I suggest making another business plan once you have made your business idea a reality. This first one is where you will write about the steps needed to get your business up and to run. Think of it as an outlet where you can be as creative as you want or need.
2. Pick a business name

When deciding on the name of your future business, try to be creative. Having a unique name will grab the attention of potential customers. If you want traffic to be driven toward your business, one of the best ways to do that is to stand out.
This goes with everything you do. Your product, name, niche, etc. Try thinking out of the box to make an impression on your audience.
The number one compliment I get from my business is my name. The name I have chosen for my business leaves an impression on the people I offer my service. This makes it easier for them to remember as well as find. Driving more traffic and customers my way.
3. Define Your Service

If you're reading this blog, you must have a unique idea for a business. That's the keyword "unique." You not only need to know your service, but you have to know how it will be different from what already exists. For some of you, that may be easy because your idea may already be unique. For others, you may be just like me.
When starting my business, "The Love Potion Bar," I knew some portable mocktail bars already existed in Utah (note: make sure to research your business idea). Since this was the case, I had to figure out my unique service. I decided it would be custom drinks specific to my customer's events. This is what makes me stand out from the other portable mocktail bars.
4. Discover Your Niche

Figuring out your niche isn't always as easy as it may sound. Your niche should be something you enjoy doing and are good at. For instance, I am an event planner who decided to open a portable mocktail bar. Why? I love going to events, planning events, and all things events. On top of that, I love mocktails! What's even better is I have a business partner whose niche is creating recipes, mocktail recipes.
When finding your niche understand it can be anything. Try to remember your competition, audience, service, and goals with your business. This will help you narrow down your niche and find ways to incorporate it into your business. It won't be successful if you don't love what you're doing.
5. Know Your Audience

When starting a business, it is good to know who your audience is. Having a niche will help narrow your specific audience down. Your services and sometimes your name can narrow it down as well.
I know you're thinking, "how could my name narrow down my audience?" Your name will attract certain people to your business, and once they are interested, it will help them make the first impression.
Your service will target a specific type of people, and that is who your audience is. Who do you market and sell to?
These are only a few of the tips that have helped me and others start our businesses. Everyone is different; sometimes, not everything that works for others will work for you. Find your niche, name, audience, business plan, and service, and adjust it to be unique.
